Given that the most obvious overtone with paddling is that of sexual submission--not face-to-face "nice sex," but sex that is depersonalizing and painful, as well as forced or coerced, it follows that the paddle, or strap, or hand, or whatever is used to beat the victim is the phallic symbol slamming into her upturned rear with rhythmic strokes. (Insofar as the particular type of implement varies, part of the spanking fetish can be cultural. The feel of an American paddle, or a Scottish tawse, or a British cane, for example, can itself become a learned fetish, fused with the animal urges that are evoked by the manner in which all these objects are applied.)
Often in paddling schools there are several male paddlers. There is usually one “he-man” who hits harder, or who maybe has a bigger or otherwise more "effective" paddle. He laughs and jokes about it and is pleased to know the students report that "his paddle hurts more," or "his swats are the worst." In this respect, he is like the aggressive male who enjoys a reputation of having a "huge one" which is powerfully felt by the women or submissive men he "screws" (not makes love to, although "screw" is a relatively nice word for what he does). He is "THE MAN!" If school policy allows students to be paddled on bare skin, or in clothes that provide minimum cushioning against the principal's disciplinary "tool," all the better to ensure that he or she "really feels it." (It should be noted that even beyond the context of corporal punishment, the infliction of pain might itself appeal to some principals. At least one study has found that scenes of general violence toward women arouse many men, as well as some women, even when it has no sexual overtones like those which distinguish spanking.)
Correlating with how much the paddle stings is how red the student's buttocks immediately get in response to it, which in turn is an index of blood rushing to the impacted areas of skin. Even without seeing the skin, significant reddening is known to be taking place and is easy enough for the paddler to visualize in progress. Hence, the more impressively a principal "performs" with his paddle on a young lady, the more he knows he will bring about a dramatic increase of blood flow to her pelvic region. He may even be “he-man” excited by her rape victim-like tears, or psychological trauma and withdrawal, or in some cases even by her pleading with him to stop hurting her. All the more arousing and flattering for him to realize that she is painfully overwhelmed by his manhood, that she’ll be “taking home some bruises,” and that she will “never be the same” after he brutally traumatizes her. The paddled redness of her buttocks and thighs from vasodilation and internal bleeding corresponds to the red outward blood that might result from a brutal rape, or from the “popped cherry” of a “busted virgin.”
That the middle-aged male principal effectively has a harem, possibly of hundreds of teen girls under his authority to spank, is also a fantasy come true. To those he might for some reason not dare to spank, he can at least enjoy giving a vicarious sense of what he does to other girls in the school. Even if a student never experiences paddling directly, it's a sure bet she will at some point be threatened with it, overhear it, perceive that it's about to take place or has just happened, hear other girls describe it, or even see its effects on the injured buttocks of a gym classmate or teammate with whom she showers. To one degree or another, the principal knows, every single girl who attends his school will be regularly confronted with the idea of a man whacking the rear of an adolescent female, framed as something righteous and beneficial (not to mention "traditional"). In a workplace setting, such confrontation alone would likely qualify as sexual harassment of the "hostile environment" type. I n the school setting, not even the girls whose actual bodies are violated are seen as victims--except maybe victims of their own "bad attitude" or "poor judgment" which got them sent to the principal's office. Whatever happens in that office supposedly "serves them right."
Inasmuch as the principal also wields the paddle against the young men in his school he is, moreover, akin to a dominant buck sexually vanquishing younger bucks to assert his claim over the female herd, while dominating and marking the females in turn. Instead of marking them with urine from his phallus as a deer or dog might, however, the principal uses his phallic paddle to mark their buttocks with redness and bruising. Paddling the boys establishes his dominance over them, just as my dog Cyrus had to dominate the male competitor for the female.
If a girl happened to be intimate with her boyfriend and he were to look at her sex area soon after the principal "got done with her," he would see the dominant male's mark left on her. It is common, in fact, for boyfriends of paddled women to want to see the physical results of the swats they took. Her buttocks would be bright red from vasodilation and ruptured blood vessels that day and beyond, and, with the typical bruises, the older dominant man's marks would remain visible up to a week or more later. The more severely the girl was injured, of course, the more of a "he-man" the older principal must be to be able to "whale on her" like that. Despite feelings of anger that his girlfriend was hurt and violated, the young man may have a desire to similarly put his own mark on her and thereby reclaim this "territory" for himself, especially once the previous marks have faded. Or, realizing that unlike the older man, he would not be socially allowed to beat her to this extent (and maybe loves her and therefore wouldn't really want to), he may long for the day when he can "butt-bust" a string of submissive young women like the principal can. Some of these young men, of course, go on to become the next generation of male paddling principals.
